This introductory teaching to a new series on Ezra and Nehemiah is subtitled “There and Back Again,” referring to the purifying journey described in these books and which we also experience. Beginning with a connection to the novel “The Life of Pi,” we move on to a brief bird’s-eye view of Israel’s journey partly described in Ezra and Nehemiah: warning to give the land its Sabbath rests, consequences for not listening, awakening to the sin, deliverance, and return.
