Often contentious chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians is our fare this week, the “tongues” chapter, better called the “languages” chapter. We take a considerable amount of time laying a foundation before reading through the text verse-by-verse. The introduction includes a brief history of “languages” from Babel to Sinai to the Gentiles and two approaches to the topic, the historical and charismatic perspectives.
