“Shemot” means “names,” and we look at the Hebrew for several names in this week’s teaching. Before we do so, we ask the question, “Why did Israel have to go down to Egypt?” Other topics include four uses of the phrase “on the stones” and the “deep” subject of four men who meet four women at four wells resulting in four marriages.
