Genesis 3a
Join Beth Tikkun as we continue our Torah Project series. In this teaching we try to understand why the Torah uses the same word to describe Adam & Eve as well as the serpent. What do “cunning” and “nakedness” have to do with each other? We also get to the bottom of what Satan’s desire is for every human being and describe the true nature of evil. Then we examine the inner meaning of the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil.

Shalom Grant,
Does the phrase, “Tree of good from evil,” make sense? I had heard this many years ago. I don’t know if a rabbi coined this or not. But the phrase haunts me to this day. It sounds more like; i don’t know – more evil than good. Any opinions on this?
As always, thank you, Blessings,
Roberto

Roberto, That phrase does not occur in Scripture. But, it sounds like a midrash someone may have tried to make on the Eden story. I think it is probably best just to stick with the phrase used in the Torah: “The tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” Shalom!
