Genesis 50
Join us for this final Torah Project teaching in Genesis. We begin this lesson by noting the Jewish discomfort with Joseph’s decision to embalm his father’s body, drawing from the discussion an important principle about how we are to relate to God’s creation. We then focus on the little word “perhaps” in verse 15 that, in Hebrew, contains a deep insight which does not come through in translation. Next, we glean a lesson from the fact that we have no biblical record of Joseph clearly expressing forgiveness of his brothers despite their plea for it. Closing out the Genesis teaching, we touch again upon the now very lengthy list of Messianic parallels with Joseph’s story. Finally, we hear some excerpts from Dennis Prager’s fine new commentary on Exodus.
