The Genesis of Passover
Join us for this special Passover Torah Project teaching. Using as our starting point the Genesis 46 record of the 70 souls who descended to Egypt, we explore the concept that Israel is formed in the womb of Egypt and birthed from that place during the Exodus. We look into how God has wonderfully hidden in the numbers of Genesis 46 information about the biological “genetics” of the Jewish people. Further, we see how these same numbers are at play in God’s descent into the Tabernacle, a parallel event to Israel’s descent into Egypt. Moving on, we then trace this genetics theme in the Torah through the word “echad,” “one.” In the second half of the teaching, we zero in on the use of the word “fish” in Genesis 48:16, a word used to describe the growth of Israel in Egypt and a word that speaks of our Messiah. Finally, we finish Genesis 48 by gleaning insights from Israel’s blessing of Ephraim and Manasseh.
